MONTHLY BUSINESS MEETINGS
The Wolverine Dental Society meets monthly, September to June. Each meeting includes a dinner and a guest speaker. Topics are a wide range of subjects from to dental health, dental procedure and managing a dental practice; each providing an opportunity to earn CE credits. All dentists are invited to attend, this is also an opportunity for dentists in the Metropolitan Detroit area to network. Meeting details are listed below.
WDS Business Meeting
Michigan’s Medicaid dental program plays a pivotal role in shaping access to oral healthcare, yet its complexity often leaves providers on the sidelines. This session will demystify how Michigan’s Medicaid dental system is funded, administered, and reimbursed, and why provider participation is essential to the state’s overall public health.
Participants will be walked through the flow of Medicaid dollars from the federal government to the chairside encounter, outlining eligibility, benefits, and reimbursement realities. The consequences of limited provider participation—such as increased emergency department visits and strain on dental schools and safety-net programs will also be discussed.
The program will conclude with an overview of the recently enacted One Big Beautiful Bill (P.L. 119-21) and its implications for higher education, health professions programs, and the broader dental workforce pipeline.
