The Wolverine Dental Society proudly invites you to attend the installation of Dr. Sheila L. Armstrong as the 96th President of the National Dental Association (our parent organization). The ceremony will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at the Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center in Detroit, Michigan. This occasion will be celebrated with a reception at 6:00 pm followed by an Inaugural Gala at 7:00 pm. Formal invitations will follow.
Dr. Armstrong, is a 1990 graduate of the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. She has enjoyed over 30 years of service in organized dentistry. During her matriculation she was involved in the Black Dental Student Association (now the Student National Dental Association), and Alpha Omega dental fraternity. Upon graduation, she joined the Wolverine Dental Society (local component of the National Dental Association) and served as Financial Secretary (2002-2006) and President (2006-2011). As a member of the National Dental Association she served in the House of Delegates (2007-2008), the Board of Trustees (2009-2011), Treasurer (2012-2017), Vice-President (2018), and President-Elect (2019). She will be installed as the 96th President of the National Dental Association. Her term will begin January 1, 2020. She is a member in good standing in the American Dental Association, Michigan Dental Association, Detroit District Dental Society; and she is recognized as a Fellow in the International College of Dentists and the American College of Dentists.
Dr. Armstrong firmly believes that African American students should have an opportunity to pursue a career in dentistry. The debt that students incur in the pursuit of a career in dentistry can be overwhelming. Our collaborative efforts can help defray some of the expenses acquired by aspiring students. Dr. Armstrong believes that the National Dental Association and Wolverine Dental Society are great organizations for mentoring, leadership development, and continuing education for current members and the next generation of members. She also realizes that in order for the legacy of the NDA/WDS to continue, aspiring students must be supported. Therefore, we are seeking your support and partnership on one of the levels detailed in the enclosed package. Your support will help fulfill the mission of Dr. Armstrong and the NDA/WDS to identify and assist students who aspire to become dentists in the 21st century.
Thank you for your time and consideration. We look forward to your presence and support in this celebration.
